Dorset Gazette is adding its voice to those backing Xenon Radio, the independent station now broadcasting across Poole and Purbeck on DAB and streaming online at xenonradio.co.uk.

Xenon Radio's focus is unapologetically narrow: 90s and 00s indie anthems, Britpop favourites and guitar-driven classics, from Oasis and the Arctic Monkeys to the Killers. As the station puts it on its own site: "No filler. No waffle. No endless talking. Just a proper flow of music."

The station is run by Carl Greenham, a familiar name in Dorset radio. Greenham previously served as Station Manager of AIR 107.2, the community radio station for Weymouth & Portland, before going on to launch Xenon Radio.

Xenon Radio arrives as part of a wider expansion of small-scale DAB radio across the Poole, Purbeck and Wimborne area, which in the past two years has opened up space on the airwaves for independent and community stations alongside the established names.

For Dorset Gazette, backing Xenon Radio is a natural fit. Both are independent, Dorset-based outlets built without the backing of a national media group — one telling the county's news, the other its soundtrack. Supporting local, independent media, in whatever form it takes, is part of what we believe a healthy local media scene needs.

You can find Xenon Radio on DAB across Poole and Purbeck, or listen online at xenonradio.co.uk.
