A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm after a reported machete attack left another man with a head injury in Bournemouth.

Dorset Police were called at 12.40pm on Thursday 1 October to reports of a man carrying a machete in Boscombe Chine Gardens. A man suffered a head injury during an altercation and was taken to hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

According to The Sun, armed officers subsequently arrested a suspect at the nearby Chine Hotel. He was seen being escorted from the building into a police van.

The hotel has been used to accommodate asylum seekers and has been closed to the public for several years. However, the police statement quoted in reports does not identify the immigration status of either man.

Police said there would be an increased officer presence while enquiries were carried out to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
